The London Designjunction exhibition
It isn’t easy to find your way around the many events at the London Design Festival; it’s impossible to see them all so you have to choose the best. A necessary port of call is the Designjunction: there are 150 brands here, including famous companies and emerging designers, and it’s not just furnishings. Going round the stands and installations, you’ll come across the Lightjunction products, a section dedicated to high-end decorative lighting that I found really interesting.
Districarsi tra gli innumerevoli eventi del London Design Festival non è facile, vederli tutti è impossibile e quindi bisogna scegliere i migliori. Una tappa al Designjunction è d’obbligo: sono presenti 150 brand tra aziende famose e designer emergenti e non si tratta solo di arredamento. Infatti girando tra stand e installazioni si trovano i prodotti del Lightjunction, sezione dedicata all’illuminazione decorativa di fascia alta che ho trovato molto interessante.

The Bla Station Dent swivel chair is evocative of a crumpled sheet of paper and it comes in a natural veneer wooden body or a paint finish.
Ricorda un foglio di carta stropicciato la sedia girevole Dent di Bla Station, disponibile con scocca in legno impiallacciato naturale o verniciato.
The Medusa and Chinita lamps by designer Claesson Koivisto Rune are handmade in wicker by the Chilean brand Made in Mimbre.
Le lampade Medusa e Chinita, del designer Claesson Koivisto Rune, sono realizzate in vimini artigianalmente dal marchio cileno Made in Mimbre.
We found them at the SaloneSatellite in Milan, at Now! Design à Vivre in Paris…could they ever have missed out on the London Design Festival? I’m talking about the Poetic Lab people, who are presenting for the occasion a new version of the Ripple lamp and the prototype of the remarkable Shadow Clock. I find them very romantic!
Li abbiamo trovati al SaloneSatellite di Milano, al Now! Design à Vivre di Parigi…potevano mancare al London Design Festival? Mi riferisco ai ragazzi di Poetic Lab, che per l’occasione presentano una nuova versione della lampada Ripple e il prototipo del suggestivo orologio a ombra Shadow Clock. Io li trovo romanticissimi!
And still on the subject of SaloneSatellite, we have Canvas, whose prototype, later produced by Innermost, was presented in April in Milan and wowed all the trade fair visitors (including me!). In addition to the beautiful picture-chair, I’d like to mention, by the same (delightful) Japanese designers Naoki Ono and Yuki Yamamoto, founders of the YOY studio, the Peel corner light, a thin triangular LED plate that seems to come away from the wall as if it were a page from a book.
E restando in tema di SaloneSatellite troviamo Canvas, il cui prototipo, poi prodotto da Innermost, era stato presentato ad aprile a Milano e aveva fatto impazzire tutti i visitatori della fiera (me compresa!). Oltre al meraviglioso quadro-poltrona, degli stessi designer giapponesi (simpaticissimi) Naoki Ono e Yuki Yamamoto, fondatori dello studio YOY, vi segnalo la lampada angolare Peel, una sottilissima piastra triangolare a LED che sembra distaccarsi dalla parete come se fosse la pagina di un libro.
In the LZF Lamps space is the Escape lamp by Irishman Ray Power, winner of the Red Dot Design Award 2013, for the Communication Design section.
Allo spazio di LZF Lamps c’è la lampada Escape dell’irlandese Ray Power, vincitrice del Reddot Design Award 2013 sezione Comunication Design.

Ps. To relax afterwards, what could be better than a cup of coffee at the Serpentine Gallery? I’d like to take the opportunity to introduce Francesca, my official guide at the Design Festival. She is an architect like me, living in London, where she works for a studio that deals with retail for brands such as Apple, Abercrombie, Jimmy-Choo, etc. I had the good fortune to meet her at the European Institute of Design in Barcelona and since then I have not let her out of my sight. Straightforward, sweet and knowledgeable, she was the best guide I could have had over these last few days!
Ps. Per riposarsi subito dopo, cosa c’è di meglio di un caffè alla Serpentine Gallery? Con l’occasione vi presento Francesca, la mia guida ufficiale di questo Design Festival. Architetto come me, vive a Londra lavorando per uno studio che si occupa di retail per marchi come Apple, Abercrombie, Jimmy-Choo, ecc. Ho avuto la fortuna di conoscerla al corso di specializzazione all’Istituto Europeo di Design di Barcellona e da allora non me ne sono mai più separata. Semplice, dolce e preparatissima, è stata la guida migliore che potessi avere in questi giorni!
