London 100% Design Fair 2013
Every exhibition of furniture and design, despite the shared theme, has struck me for a different reason: the Salone del Mobile in Milan, by far the best with its chaotic bustle of staff rushing about looking for business, Maison & Objet of Paris because of the variety of articles on show, Design Miami because of the museum-like feel, and so on. 100% Design in London has really struck me … because of its party atmosphere! The bright corridor of Thomas Matthews and Studio Design UK, the large central bar, the DJ, the music – all help to give a unique welcome like no other fair.
Ogni fiera di arredamento e design, pur trattando gli stessi temi, mi ha colpito per qualcosa di diverso: il Salone del Mobile di Milano, la migliore in assoluto, per il viavai caotico di addetti al settore frettolosi e in cerca di business, il Maison&Objet di Parigi per l’eterogeneità degli articoli trattati, il Design Miami per la percezione di trovarsi un museo, e così via. Il 100% Design di Londra mi ha colpito…per l’atmosfera da festa! Il corridoio luminoso di Thomas Matthews e Studio Design UK, il grande bar centrale, il dj, la musica, contribuiscono a regalare un’accoglienza unica rispetto a qualsiasi altra fiera.
Of all the installations, the one that struck me most is the Studio Glowacka Paper Space with Mary Fulford Architects: a temporary auditorium made up of 1,500 metres of paper, where visitors can share their ideas and then tear them off and take them away.
Tra le installazioni presenti quella che mi ha colpito di più è il Paper Space dello Studio Glowacka con Maria Fulford Architects: un auditorium temporaneo realizzato con 1500 metri di carta, in cui i visitatori possono condividere le proprie idee e poi strapparle e portarle via.
D’impatto la parete luminosa realizzata appositamente per la fiera da Kevin Yu Jui Chou che espone inoltre la sua Bubble Chair.
Particularly striking is the luminous wall made especially for the exhibition by Kevin Yu Jui Chou who is also exhibiting his Bubble Chair.
The Rami Bench London and Rami Stool furniture in carbon fibre by the Korean Il Hoon Roh studio have an unexpected lightness.

The national Delight in Light competition, supported by Anglepoise and Osram, awards the best young lighting designers. Pictured is the winning project of 2012, the Frank Table Lamp by Oliver Hrubiak. I decided to vote for Bryan Chan’s Eclipse LED lamp, what do you think? The idea sprang from studies looking into sleep disorders, so it has speakers that produce soothing music. It can be operated by remote control or through a smartphone app.

Nella foto il progetto vincitore del 2012, The Frank Table Lamp di Oliver Hrubiak. Io ho scelto di votare la lampada a LED Eclipse di Bryant Chan, che ve ne pare? L’dea nasce dagli studi sui disturbi del sonno, pertanto è dotata di altoparlanti che creano una musica rilassante. Può essere azionata con il telecomando o con un app per smartphone.
The Laokon brand lamps change shape, being made up of plastic scales which you can mould as you like with your hands.

Making a second appearance at 100% design are Constanze Schweda’s sculptural tables and mirrors for Kirigram, from this year also available in brass.
Presenti per la seconda volta al 100% design, i tavoli scultorei e gli specchi di Constanze Schweda per Kirigram sono disponibili da quest’anno anche in ottone.
Atmos Studio have created an impressive dining table for eighty people around the outlines of the continents of the world. Worldscape was the focal point of the Global Fest at the 2012 Olympics.
